Wind your way up the gentle hill on a quiet country road, past the tiny hamlet of Ripoli and turn onto a pine and cypress lined drive. Breathe in the fresh air as you pull up to the traditional Romanza Tuscan villa. The classic, handsome 3-story stone villa awaits with green shutters, tiled roof and massive vistas of the valley and beyond. For larger groups, the Rocca Villa with 5 bedrooms is 1/4 mile away.
Large and gracious ensuite bedrooms, many with beautiful murals from the early 1900s will have you dreaming of your next days’ adventures. Will it be a tour of a local monastery with the owner of the villa as your guide or a private wine tasting with your own sommelier? Will you explore the nearby villages and towns in Tuscany and Umbria, or spend the day lounging by the pool?
Location
Monterchi is a full town just 2 miles away with shops, grocery store and restaurants. It is famous for the Madonna del Parto by Renaissance master Piero della Francesca.
Exterior
Dating to 1785, Romanza Villa enjoys a beautiful park-like setting with ancient oaks, cypress and pine trees. The villa is situated in the midst of 2.5 acres of gardens filled with roses and trees inviting you to bring a book, a glass of wine and to sit back and relax.
French doors from the kitchen open to a shaded outdoor dining area in the garden furnished with a table with seating for 12. A magnificent pergola, covered in Moscatello and Canaiola grapevines, beckons you down a shady gravel path to a lower level with the fully outfitted swimming pool and more sweeping views.
The gardens and swimming pool are lighted at night, ideal for long summer evenings under the stars in this most private and gorgeous setting. We found the views and grounds truly spectacular.
Interior
Enter the villa to find a comfortably furnished living/dining room with beamed ceilings, French doors and mural of the Tuscan countryside. The dining table sits in front of a large decorative fireplace and expansive archways into the kitchen.
The roomy kitchen has a kitchen table with marble counter-top, perfect for rolling out pasta. The table has a clever feature; built into a corner is a round knob, pull it to find a traditional pasta rolling pin! French doors lead out to the dining patio and the expansive grounds.
On the 2nd floor, the tiled hallway leads to a Juliette balcony with views out over the pool and valley below. The first room to the left is a pretty sitting room with a 4-seat table. Each bedroom is enchanting, with calming soft color palates and many have hand-painted ceilings. The top floor has 2 more bedrooms with more soul-soothing views.
Romanza Villa is a marvelous blend of the traditional and the modern in a storybook setting. Included in your stay, should you desire, the charming owner will take you on a tour of a local monastery and wine tasting at a nearby winery.
