Pisa International Airport, also frequently called Galileo Galilei Airport, is the biggest and busiest airport in Tuscany. There are 20 airlines that serve Pisa, though the vast majority of flights in and out of Pisa are with one budget carrier, Ryanair. You can reach Pisa from 77 airports mostly located elsewhere in Italy and Europe, plus some seasonal flights from the Middle East and Morocco. The airport is less than four miles from central Pisa.
Pisa International has one terminal with 16 gates spread over two floors so it's an easy airport to navigate on foot. Depending on your gate, you may walk from the airport terminal directly onto a plane or be instructed to get on a shuttle bus that will take you to your plane.
You have several options for getting into Pisa or Florence from PSA or vice versa.
The taxi queue at Pisa's airport is just outside the terminal, and since the drive from the airport to Pisa is pretty short, the fare is pretty reasonable. It's a €9-12 metered fare to get into the historic center from the airport after an initial charge of €3.25, excluding surcharges and tariffs for things like luggage or a late night trip.
If you're traveling to Florence from the Pisa airport, though, you'd be looking at a taxi fare of at least €170. We recommend taking the train from Pisa to Florence instead.
The Pisa Mover airport shuttle train connects the airport with Pisa's central train station in a speedy five minutes and a one-way ticket will only set you back €6.50, so it's the easiest and fastest way to get into central Pisa from the airport. The shuttle operates from 6am to 12pm or 1am, depending on the season, and departs every 5-15 minutes, depending on the time of day.
If Florence is your final destination, a train from Pisa Centrale to Florence takes 60-90 minutes and costs about €11.
There is one bus connection between Pisa's airport and Florence, as well as a few other towns in the area. (Because the Pisa Mover is so efficient, there isn't a bus option for getting into Pisa.) The Sky Bus Lines coach makes the trip from the Pisa airport to the main train station in Florence in about one hour, depending on traffic. A one-way ticket starts at €14.99.
Pisa International is well-connected to Italy's highway system since it's at the junction of several major highways, including SGC Firenze-Pisa-Livorno. The drive from the airport into Pisa itself is "blink and you'll miss it" brief, but if you're driving to Florence, that trip takes around an hour in normal traffic.
