New Years Day - Tuffo nel Tevere

For nearly 80 years, a handful of brave Romans have marked the new year with a chilly jump into the Tiber River. After a Capodanno night of fireworks and festivities, at midday on January 1 divers leap off Cavour Bridge just as the cannons sound, drawing crowds and continuing Rome's festive start to the year.

Beginning on the first Saturday of the year and running for 6 weeks, the winter sales are the best time to go shopping in Rome, with stores and businesses city-wide participating. Epiphany brings an end to the official Christmas season in Italy and celebrates the arrival of the Three Wise Men. Saint Anthony Abate Day

La Festa di Sant'Antonio Abate is celebrated on this day each year in Italy in honor of Saint Anthony Abbot, patron saint of animals and farmers. In Rome, one of the most heartwarming traditions is the Blessing of the Animals in St. Peter's Square, where farmers and pet owners gather with their animals to receive a special blessing. Horses, sheep, dogs and other animals are welcomed into the square, creating a festive and joyful atmosphere that's wonderful for visitors to experience.
