The Tiberio vacation apartment in Rome is located in the elegant and popular Prati neighborhood. It is just two blocks from the Tiber river making it an easy walk across the Ponte Margherita bridge to the beautiful Piazza del Popolo or, if walking in the other direction, it's an easy stroll to Castel Sant'Angelo and the Vatican. Just four blocks away is one of the most popular shopping areas for locals, the Via Cola di Rienzo, which features fine clothing and gourmet food shops, good restaurants, cafes and prices that are a bit lower then the more touristy areas of the historic center. One of our favorite year-round covered markets is just up the Via Cola di Rienzo where you can shop the stalls for fresh produce, dried and fresh poultry and meat, delicious handmade pasta and bouquets of beautiful fresh flowers. Even if you're not in a buying mood be sure to stop into this unique market just to see how high the Italian standard is for quality when it comes to food! The produce vendors recommend what's fresh and will tuck into your bag just the right herbs to season a minestrone or to complement a delicate pasta dish. There are two very well-known Roman gourmet food shops are nearby, where you can browse the selection of prepared foods for take-away or pick-up special sweets. Also convenient is the large Standa supermarket about a 7-minute walk away, which is one the most popular features of this area since it has an excellent selection of standard grocery items, housewares and deli foods. There are shops along the Via Cola di Rienzo where I have bought sweaters and shoes since I was a teenager. Of course, my taste has changed from mile-high platform shoes and mini-skirts to more sedate choices.

Rome Apartment Tiberio entry
This is a comfortable, recently remodeled Rome apartment perfect for a couple or a family. The 19th century building is entered off a fairly small street that is lined with apartment building and some office buildings. Just off the lobby area is a landscaped courtyard that gives the building a restful feel, particularly after being out on the busy streets of Rome. The Prati neighborhood is much sought after by locals since this is such a pleasant, livable area. We personally like it because it provides a bit of a breather from the more congested areas of Rome yet it's still an easy walk to the center and you feel more like a local. The handy Lepanto subway stop is only a few blocks away if you don't want to walk, bringing you to the Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain or Train Station in minutes.

The Tiberio apartment is located on the third floor U.S. (second floor European designation) and has an elevator. Once inside the apartment door, a handsome foyer with warm hardwood floors, greets you. The living room is to the left, the kitchen and master bedroom to the right and the second bedroom and bathroom are up the stairs directly in front of you. The living room has high ceilings and a large double window that overlooks the street below. The sofa is new and comfortable, and is one of those ingenious models that converts to two independent twin beds, giving maximum flexibility for guests. Two upholstered armchairs face the sofa and make this a casual in which to relax. There is a satellite TV, CD player and European-standard DVD player.

Rome Apartment Tiberio K3
The sizable kitchen is completely outfitted with modern, high quality appliances, a table and chairs, large refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, 4-burner gas stove, electric oven, microwave and washing machine.

The master bedroom is large with a king size bed and an adjoining bathroom. A charming aspect of the bedroom are the French doors that open to reveal the tranquil courtyard below. A clothes line extends the length of the railing for drying laundry. Inner courtyards are common in the city as this is where the "real" city living gets done. You'll hear the sounds of people going about their daily lives, hanging out laundry, enjoy the aroma of a neighbor preparing something wonderful for dinner, and mothers calling to their children to hurry up.

The ensuite tiled bathroom is narrow, but well-lit, with a window opening onto the inner courtyard. The large sink has adequate good counter space and under-the-counter storage, a stall shower, toilet and bidet.

Go upstairs to reach the second bedroom and second bathroom. Because the second level of the apartment was architected out of the very high ceilings of the downstairs bedroom, the ceiling height upstairs is low, 178 cm, so best accommodates children or people less then 5'5" tall or your head will graze the ceiling upstairs. The bed is trundle-style so can be used as a single or two twins. A tiny window in the corner opens to the inner courtyard. The upstairs bathroom is nearly identical to the downstairs bathroom.

Above the staircase on the second level is a convenient, large and easily accessible storage room for suitcases.

This apartment remodel was done in 2004 so everything is new and fresh. A two bedroom, two bathroom that is as comfortably furnished as Tiberio, and can sleep up to six people is not easy to find in this central part of Rome, which is why we recommend it so highly.
