Landini - Sleeps 6 +1
Luxury Rome Apartment with Terrace by Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona
Location
Rome lovers who return year after year always look for apartments
in this prized Campo de' Fiori area where they are transported to
an old world city with its winding streets lined with buildings
that date from the 1400s - 1800s. The Campo de' Fiori piazza itself
hosts the oldest open-air market in Rome where you can shop daily
for field-fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers. Piazza Navona,
another justly famous Roman gathering place lies a five minute walk
beyond Campo de' Fiori. This palazzo borders the area that was once
the Jewish ghetto of Rome. The former ghetto remains a lively
neighborhood with kosher shops, bakeries, schools and synagogues as
well as some wonderful restaurants that feature the signature
artichokes Jewish-style together with other delicious Roman
specialties.
Ancient Roman landmarks surround you, too, with the ruined temples
in Largo Argentina, the Theater of Marcellus (with its summer music
program), and the Capitoline Hill all within a five minute
walk. See our photo tour for pictures and more descriptions of the
neighborhood.
Building
Built in the mid-1500s, this noble palace is still home to a family that traces its history through military leadership for the Bourbon kings of Naples and Sicily and whose history is interwoven with Italy's. The Palazzo opens onto a small piazza with the graceful Turtle Fountain. Enter through the massive front door that is staffed with a doorman during business hours into a well-kept courtyard. Look up to see fragments of frescoes from the Renaissance period on the interior walls.
The small elevator is fine for getting your luggage up to your
apartment, but you may find yourself enjoying trips up and down the
formal staircase to soak in the regal feel of the building and
maybe get a glimpse into the palatial apartments on the second
floor, the "piano nobile." Walk by the apartment on the third floor
that was used in the film The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Interior Description
From a gracious entry, the Landini apartment opens into a large and bright living room that is furnished with seating for all guests. For large groups, can be rented with neighboring Fontana apartment in same building.
The dining room with handsome antique table and chairs seats six and is a separate room from the living room.
The modern kitchen is complete with all desired appliances and adequate counter space that is augmented with a rolling butcher block cart. Pots, pans, dishes and utensils are all provided; the china features the noble family crest. Next to the kitchen is a charming circular breakfast room with a window onto the internal courtyard.
Rising from the living room, a circular staircase reaches the expansive rooftop terrace. As large as the entire apartment, 1400 square feet, it offers rooftop views of the Eternal City and enjoyment of the usually mild seasonal temperatures of Rome. The terrace is furnished with an umbrella, iron table and chairs as well as two large upholstered lounges. Vine covered trellises define the space.
The master bedroom with queen sized bed, antique armoire and desk is spacious and receives light from its window on an internal courtyard. In the en-suite bath, appreciate the contemporary design of the large ceramic basin on an iron vanity with clever towel bar in front and matching mirror. There is a tub with movable "telephone" style shower head that has a bracket to form a shower head.
The second bedroom
has twin beds that may be joined to form a king sized bed, antique armoire and desk. It overlooks narrow Via del Falegnami. The en-suite bath has a shower with both movable and fixed, rain-style shower heads.
The third bedroom has two twin beds, antique armoire and desk and also overlooks Via del Falegnami. The bath is across the hall and has movable and fixed shower heads.
Rent includes one hour of housekeeping weekdays.
